What's in a Name
Ever wonder where the name 'SobeSata' came from?
Soon after making purses for my friends that Christmas, the comments and questions started rolling in. Whenever they reached for their wallets, my friends were greeted with, "Where did you get that purse? I love it! I want one - where can I buy it?". Whenever I purchased fabric, the cutter was always curious as to what I was making with it - "Oh, this wool would make a great jacket. You're making a purse from it? ...Really? Where can I see the finished result?". I couldn't ignore the signs anymore - it was time to open up a shop. But what to name it? One great suggestion was 'Manley Bags' - "For when things just aren't your bag" (My last name is Manley, by the way). Although I LOVED the idea, the words 'manly' and 'bags' together did not make me think of purses. If you've got a dirty, humorous mind like me, you can probably guess what I did think of. So, in the end, I nixed the idea. Then I started thinking of what I love and of people who influence me to be a better person, and my nieces and nephew instantly popped into my head. I have 3 sweet, beautiful nieces and 1 hilariously cute nephew - and they love me almost as much as I love them. I knew my shop name had to include them somehow. With their names being Sophie, Bennett, Sadie, & Taran, I took the first two letters of their name and voila! 'SobeSata Co' was born.
Soon after telling my sister about the name, I met my entire family for dinner one night. My nephew ran up to me and gave me a little book he had written about my new company, and it told of how he and his sister had helped to create it. I was so touched, it was all I could do not to cry while reading it. The name SobeSata is near and dear to my heart now, and I would never consider changing it.
